This five-module on-line segment of the STARTALK Teacher Program supports the ten-day onsite experience by preparing you, the participants, for the material that we will cover together in person. The on-line portion is asynchronous and should be completed at your own pace, before July 15, 2017 at the latest. We will review the key concepts the first day of the onsite program in Fargo.
Participants will begin by taking the TELL Self-Assessment. Then, they will read online such as ACTFL documents, and other STARTALK resources. They will also watch STARTALK and Annenberg videos in order to perform tasks in the following five modules:
1) National Standards,
2) STARTALK Principles,
3) Teaching a Good Story and Checking for Comprehension,
4) Engaging All Learners of Every Age, and
5) Putting it all together.
In Module 5, participants will observe a video of model classes and answer questions identifying strategies and activities. These modules will set the foundation for the onsite experience. The first day of the onsite experience, the modules will be reviewed and then referenced during the first week of onsite instruction.

Start working on the modules, beginning with Module 1, which deals with the National Standards. Proceed in numerical order through the 5 modules. Each module contains readings / videos and requires you to post your thoughts in a variety of formats (look for the title of your module on the right hand side of the page and click on the module that you want to complete). You will also be required to complete assignments that will be sent to [email protected].
Please note that you may write your responses to each module in Chinese or English. We also have options to record some responses, rather than writing them. The audio recordings may also be in either Chinese or English.
